Okemos, Mich.: Susan Barry, 60, spends every day wishing she had known more about male anorexia when her son, TJ Warschefsky, was still alive. He died in 2007 at the age of 22 after an eight-year battle with the disease. His heart gave out in the middle of his nightly routine of 1,000 sit-ups. He weighed 78 pounds.“He didn’t want to be skinny,” Barry said of TJ, who was a star athlete and straight-A student. “He wanted a six pack, he wanted rock hard abs. That’s how it all started.”

This is just one of the many stories on this site. People hear anorexia and think it's a girl's disease, but at least one million males in the United States struggle with anorexia or bulimia. It seems that the disease is increasing among boys, but it could be that they are just more comfortable "coming out" now. One in four people suffering from anorexia are male and it makes it embarrassing for them to come out because people believe it's a girl's disease. Something needs to be done about this.

Ya i think that people need to start saying that its not only girls with the disease. I understand what you are saying though about the guys coming out. Im a guy, and i think i would be embarrassed if i had that disease. That stills doesn't mean people need to forget about the guys.

It's sad to see what this world is coming to. I mean, even guys are struggling with the way they look. You look at the world and you think that guys don't face that kind of stuff because if they did and they showed weakness they would be looked down upon. The truth is, people are just to judgmental, myself included.

This is the most shocking article I have read yet. I really never thought of males and anorexia. Now that I know the stats, I am shocked. Anorexia is a major disease and problem not only in the U.S. but around the world. This needs to stop. I agree with Tracy it's sad what the world is coming to. Due to the media many women don't feel beautiful because of their size. To be honest I think plus size is just as beautiful as being a size 4. It really is sad.
